Is the Lake Cam back out? I've tried a couple of days and get nothing. It's hot as heck out here in LV and I just like taking a look at the lake every couple of days.

Hi Redbenz,
I can't view the Lakecam either. I thought it was my computer. I don't know what's wrong. I thought someone might reply that knows for sure what's going on.
I was up there Friday afternoon and Saturday. The weather was hot -- just like it should be this type of year! Hope it continues!

Yes, it appears to have been down since last week. I don't have access to it and have asked those who do to reboot it as soon as possible.

The marina has updated their web connection, inlcuding creating a web access hotspot at the marina for all to use. These changes are causing problems with the webcam link. Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon!

If you haven't noticed, the camera is back in operation and working better than ever. Almost full motion video! Thanks Russ!

I've heard from some people that they cannot view the LakeCam.
Because our camera is a "streaming video" system, namely the picture is almost full motion video, it requires a small piece of software that is added to your web browser. These "add-ons" are fairly common and safe (if from a reputable company), and usually install automatically in the background.
However, sometimes this automatic install doesn't take. I've found that those who can't see the picture are usually having this problem. The fix is fairly simple.
First, make sure you temporarily shut off any pop-up blockers you have turned on in your browser (in Microsoft Internet Explorer, these controls can be found under the "Tools" menu)
This site also needs to be set up as a trusted site, or your security settings need to be set similar to the default settings.
Once this is set up, browse to the LakeCam link. Hopefully you will now see a message at the top of your browser that says you need to install an "Active-X" control. This particular control is called AxisCamControl and it's from Axis Communications, the makers of the camera.
Install this add-on, and the camera should now work for you. (Don't forget to turn your pop-up blocker back on after this)
As always, if this doesn't work for you, drop me a note via the link on the main page and I'll try to help you get it working.

Hi,
Nothing has changed as far as the camera is concerned. The camera is from a company called Axis and it has always required an Active-x add-on from Axis Communications. If you were able to view it before, you had this activeX add-on installed but perhaps didn't know it.
In the past these add-ons were added silently. Unfortunately, this also allowed some with less than honorable intentions to also install add-ons that were not wanted. With the recent emphasis on security, Microsoft and other software developers are now making you aware of the installation and letting you choose which ones you want to install. This is the warning you are getting from Internet Explorer. It is simply asking you if you are aware that it is trying to install this add-on and do you approve.
In this instance, I would recommend you accept it. Axis is a very reputable firm and this control is required by many other webcam sites, including some of the other lakes region ones. Unless we were to install another camera, you will need to do this if you want to see the picture.
The risks in doing this are no higher than installing other common add-ons from other reputable web companies (for example: Macromedia Flash Player,Quicktime from Apple, etc)
Thanks for the feedback.

Camera is temporarily out. We need to wait until someone can get to it to restore power.
