Ice out

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to when ice out will occur?
Maybe we could start a yearly contest of some sort. I'm going to say April 30th.

That's my guess.

But, who decides? and how?

On Winnipesaukee it is defined as a clear sailing route for the Mt. Washington. Other lakes place a cinder block in an obvious location and wait for it to fall through.

So, how should we determine official ice out on Merrymeeting?

I like the Winnepesaukee method....the ability for someone to be able to drive a boat/jetski from the Marina to the other side of the lake.

From the picture on the MML web cam I'd say ice-out was ..... Yesterday!

I guess another way to determine "Iceout" is when the Marina puts the docks in and the first boats are tied up. That all happened yesterday! :)
