Question from newcomers....

We are renting a house for the season on Merrymeeting (very excited!) and wondering if there is trash pickup or if there is a dump nearby where we could take household garbage....... thanks!

Hello newcomers and welcome to MML!

There is the New Durham dump on Old Rt11 in town. You'll need a dump sticker on your car; $5 at town hall, it's good forever. The guys there are great and the open hours are good (open both Sat and Sun for weekenders like me).

Regarding private service, I believe it depends on which road you'll be on. I'm up on the Northeast side on Cedergren Road where private service has changed hands in the recent past and I'm unsure if there is service this year. If you're on Northshore or Southshore road I'm pretty sure there is a private service you can hire. Possibly others will post more.

The guys at the recycling center on Old route 111 are great.
Ask the folks at the house that you are renting if they already have
a sticker.
We've been at the lake for years and I try to keep it handy
for anyone who needs it! You can stop by the camp store/gas station
in town and see if the new phone books are in. Usually these are local
to the New Durham,Alton and Farmington areas. At the least they have
business cards of local garbage pickup. The folks in there are nice and might be able to give you the names of some people. Near the dam is the Merrymeeting message board, alot of guys place business cards there.
Try the marina on North Shore. Also ask at Northern Exposure Real estate
on the nain road coming into ND.
I would also ask the people who own the house if they keep a local
list of plumbers, electricians,septic,fuel delivery,Fire,Police etc.
It's always handy when your new to the lake!
