I recently moved my office up to the lake for the summer and have noticed that my broadband service from Metrocast Cablevision is seriously degraded from last year's performance. Metrocast support has told me there is a "lost packet" problem in the area (I'm on Elly Point but have no idea how large or small the problem "area" might be) and would send a tech out to investigate although no time frame specified. I would assume that new installations have priority.

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem. I'd also be interested in hearing from any Union Communications DSL users on their satisfaction with that service.

Thanks.

Hi Ellypointster,

Since we don't have cable on the eastern side of the lake, Worldpath DSL is the only option. I've had it since mid-summer last year and it has been very dependable. No response problems.

Having just completed an analysis of both services for a friend on the other side of the lake, I can tell you the pricing for both DSL and cable is about the same. Cable has a slight advantage if you are a seasonal user with cable TV. The startup cost for cable and broadband are combined.

We have Metrocast High Speed Internet on North Shore and haven't had any problems.

I've had the Union Communications DSL line for a couple of months and find it to be just as fast as my broadband service at home. No problems at all.

We have had DSL for a week or so now and have been delighted.
Dial up was agony.
This seems as fast as our cable at home.
