Winter 2005

Ice-In 2012

While we cotinue to work on getting the LakeCam back online, here is a series of pictures showing the evolution of "Ice-In" on Merrymeeting this year

New Years Day - sunset, no ice to speak of anywhere on the lake

Sunset - 1/1/2012

January 7th, sunrise, ice starting to form near the dam, in the coves, and along the eastern shore.

Winter Sunrise

January 17th, mid-day, the lake finally skimmed over with ice overnight, then a light dusting of snow covered it. But the ice is thin and there are still open pockets of water

First Ice

Morning, January 18th.  The past 24 hours have seen crazy weather.  Temps hit the 40's shortly after the ice formed, and it rained all night, washing away any traces of snow.  A few small openings in the ice, but it mostly stayed intact.

Snow gone, ice opening

Jan 18th, late afternoon - the temps have plummeted to single digits.  Despite the cold, wind gusts of up to 50 mph have opened up large holes in the ice.

Cold and very windy

Jan 19th, morning - Once the winds died down, the cold temps caused the remaining open areas to freeze.  The lake is now fully iced in.

Ice-In 2012

Jan 19th, late afternoon -The ice continues to thicken, as seen from the Eastern shore.

LakeCam status

Unfortunately, the LakeCam view from the marina is not working again.  Troubleshooting it requires a few of us to coordinate times when we can be at the lake.  Hopefully this will happen during the holiday break and we can have it back online to allow all to watch the ice form.

I have disabled the default registration due to too many spamming attempts.
